An SEO consultant has a number of different tasks that they are expected to complete. It’s important that you understand what the responsibilities of this particular role are if you are either looking into a career as one, or you are thinking about hiring one. Once the objective is understood, it will be possible to start formulating some kind of plan as to how they are going to achieve this.

An SEO consultant should also be able to conduct local SEO marketing campaigns where they are needed. It’s essential that they know how to have a 100% complete Google My Business profile with all the correct information, Google Maps and so on. Local SEO is important for all businesses, but ones with physical stores especially. Getting local business citations is also going to be included in this, so it’s important they understand how to do this.

Diagnose and Fix Technical Issues

When it comes to SEO, there are things that can go wrong and things that SEO was designed specifically to fix. Anything that can impact your page ranking is going to be included under this bracket. For example, if you know that your load times on your pages are slow, this is a technical issue that an SEO consultant is going to need to fix. Broken links, page errors, duplicate content and poor URL structure are all technical issues that an SEO consultant would be expected to diagnose and fix. User Experience for Better Conversion Rate

As an SEO consultant, the expectation would be that they know how to enhance user experience for a better conversion rate. The higher the conversion rate, the better your company is doing which is why this is so important. They will need to be able to optimize your website to improve the experience for the user in the hopes of leading them to make a purchase. The aim here is also to avoid page abandonment, which will make your bounce rate drop.

The changes will need to entice people to stay on the site for longer and can result in a higher click through rate for the business.

Keyword Research

Finding the keywords that relate to the business that have both low competition and high profitability is a fantastic skill for an SEO consultant to have. They also need to be able to research related search times and alternative questions that someone could be typing into that search bar. As such, there needs to be an understanding of Keyword Targeting Strategy and how you can find such words.

Keyword Mapping

Once you have the keywords that are going to be used, they need to be assigned to a specific webpage so that everything stays organized. This is going to be a huge benefit because it helps to avoid keyword cannibalization later down the line which can be a huge problem if someone isn’t careful. Keyword mapping will also help strengthen pillar pages, which is another benefit of doing this.

Full Website Audit

An SEO consultant is going to need to be able to perform a full and comprehensive website audit. It’s not possible to know what needs to be changed or if there are any issues without doing something like this. It will mean that they will need to be able to examine, test and diagnose any visibility issues that a site might be having.

Copywriting

It’s easy to say that the content needs to be done a certain way, but an SEO consultant also needs to be able to write the content to perform as well as possible. This is going to include writing effective headlines, subheadings and meta descriptions. Knowing how long the optimum length is for a sentence and paragraph, and being able to connect to the audience are important for an SEO consultant to be able to do. The language and tone of the content should match the one used by people who are searching through the internet to find what they are looking for, which is typically conversational.

Improve Existing Content

As well as being able to write new content for the site, an SEO consultant should be able to go through existing content and check for things like readability and update the content that already exists in order to make it easier to scan through, rather than forcing the reader to sit through every single world. Also, be able to check for spelling and grammar errors, correcting them as they pop up, and ensuring that each page is relevant. Adding value to the site as a whole is an important task.

Being able to go through all the content on the site and ensure that it is staying on topic is going to be an essential responsibility. As such, a keen eye is required due to the nature of the responsibilities that an SEO consultant will have to complete.
