Enjoy this week’s guest post from founder and CEO of EPIC Translations, Mostansar Virk, and discover how document translations can help your business.
Does your company operate in multiple countries?
If so, you own a global brand! It is challenging enough to operate a successful business in one country, but operating it in multiple countries has countless challenges. You might be familiar with some of these challenges:
- Legal regulations and requirements
- Accounting and taxation
- Marketing and search engine optimization (SEO)
- HR complexities
- And others
But one area that you might not be so familiar with and is equally impactful on your brand, is the translation(s) of your company specific documents.
What Would You Do?
Imagine this. You come home excited after buying a new product for your next big project. However, you quickly discover that the user instructions are all in a foreign language!
If you’re like most people, you would probably go and return the product. I can tell you for sure that you won’t buy that brand again. Similarly, if you’re selling your products in other countries, you need to make sure you’re communicating in their language with accurate document translations. Common Sense Advisory, a consultancy for global operations, found that 75% of customers “prefer to buy products in their native language.”
What Document Translations are Necessary?
Documents for products your company sells in multiple countries, such as product manuals, user instruction sheets, legal contracts, HR policies, and marketing collateral all have a direct impact on your ability to operate globally.
Companies generally seek translation support when they have set up their operations in a foreign country and are ready to market their products and services there.

One of the first things they do is localize their website and then translate their documents for products that will bring in revenue for them.
Serious companies prefer to invest in document translations by a human translator rather than using free online translation tools. In the example above about your newly purchased product that you ended up returning, you would be able to tell right away if the instructions were written in broken English. Similarly, your customers in other countries will also be able to tell right away if you used free online translation tools. And as a result, they will not feel a strong emotional/psychological connection with your brand.
For selling products in foreign countries, it is worth investing in professionally translating your documents in order to not only sustain your global operations, but to enhance the international image of your brand. Otherwise you risk being perceived as a mediocre brand.
