Enjoy this week’s guest post, from Ben Sowter, on how your intuition in business could be your secret weapon.

Have you ever had one of those days where nothing seemed to go your way? Did you wish you could have known what was going to go wrong so you could avoid making a mistake? You’re not alone. We all have had that experience before.

There’s a secret weapon that holds power to give the impossible solutions to those painful and time-consuming mistakes. It’s your intuition, and it’s easier to access than you think. So why haven’t you been using your intuition? A common reason why people don’t rely on their intuitive insights is that intuition originates from a different part of us to our logical mind. As it does not compute with our normal logical thought process, intuition gets ignored as a figment of the imagination. From a young age, we are taught by parents and teachers to interact and think logically about the world around us rather than utilising our innate sensory nature to tune into our intuitive guidance. As a result, we need to have proof of something before we will trust it, much like the scientific way of understanding the world around us. It also relates to trusting memories of past experiences to gauge what we should do, which is the opposite of intuition.

Another reason that any intuitive insight will not be trusted is that it is just a “gut feeling” and nothing more. Gut feeling is an example of basic instinctual intuition, a survival mechanism we all have that protects us from threats to our safety in the world around us. Hone this sense and take it up a notch and you have higher sensory awareness, an intuitive sense that knows what the logical mind does not.

So what is intuition?

Current scientific research into intuition by The Heartmath Institute, among others, has shown that the heart plays a vital role in the receiving and interpreting of intuitive information. The heart centre works with the sensory system to convey intuitive intelligence to the brain for integration with the logical mind in the decision-making process. The heart and sensory system work together as if like a radio receiver. The intuitive feeling that you sense is your sensory system acting as an antenna, receiving intuitive information energy (radio waves). The heart acts as an amplifier. It transforms the intuitive information (radio waves) into something that the brain can understand, conscious thought.

The key to utilizing intuition for business is to integrate the intuitive sense into your thought process. Intuition is accessed through the heart consciousness, as opposed to the logical mind residing in the brain. The heart and logical mind communicate in two different languages. The logical mind tends to be rational and analytical, whereas the heart communicates in abstract symbolism and sensory feeling.

A Simple Technique to Access Intuitive Answers

A useful technique to allow intuitive information to present itself is to focus your awareness away from your mind, into your heart space. Whenever you have a decision to make, take a moment to stop any pre-conceived thoughts, take a few deep breaths and be still in body and mind. As you do this, your mind will become still, and then you can focus your attention on your intuition centre – your heart – to be able to sense the intuitive answer. Although the heart is involved with receiving intuitive information, it will not carry any emotional attachment. If you find your intuitive answer presents itself with emotions like unhappiness, anxiety or ecstasy, it most certainly will be your mind masquerading as intuition. Pure intuition will feel like a knowing or certainty that is unexplainable by the rational mind. The intuitive sense is not a random but rather a natural intelligent interaction of our sensory system with the unseen energetic world around us.

So next time you need an answer to a problem that seems to be eluding you, you will have the power of your intuition to save the day.
